Friday the 13th: The Game

The Gun Media and IllFonic title - which got the go ahead to be made following a very successful Kickstarter campaign - has left beta testing and the final improvements are being made before it is made available to purchase.

It is a multiplayer, third-person horror/survival game which allows players to either control hockey mask wearing serial killer Jason Voorhees or one of six camp counsellors who must escape his murderous clutches and get away from Camp Crystal Lake.

Gun Media obtained the license to the 'Friday the 13th' movie franchise from director Sean S. Cunningham - who helmed the first instalment and owns the license. They have stayed true to the slasher series' 80s beginnings both visually and both incorporating the original theme and hiring Harry Manfredini, the same composer who scored the movies, to create the in-game music.

The developers also hired horror special effects legend Tom Savini - who worked on the original 1980 'Friday the 13th' film and 1984's 'Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter' - to bring Jason to life and come up with imaginative ways to kill the counsellors.

A single-player campaign with multiple strands, including missions "ripped straight from the film" series, and functionality where you can play as Tommy Jarvis in the multiplayer portion of the game has also been created. It will become available as DLC in the Summer.

In the slasher franchise, Tommy - first played by Corey Feldman - is responsible for killing Jason in fourth movie 'Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter' and then has to overcome his mental health problems in 'Friday the 13th: A New Beginning' in order to defeat a copycat killer.

In 'Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives' he accidentally resurrects Jason from the dead and grants him superhuman powers and then must drown him in Crystal Lake to defeat him again.

'Friday the 13th: The Game' will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
