Friday the 13th is officially being reimagined in the video game world, where players will be able to play as masked murderer Jason Voorhees or one of seven teenage counselors attempting to survive against his murderous advances.

In 1 vs. 7 gameplay, those who want to get their hands on the title for planned release in October 2016 are being encouraged to pledge any money they can towards its creation in a Kickstarter project created by Gun Media - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/613356213/friday-the-13th-the-game

At the time of writing, the game has already reached $245,358 of its $700,000 target, with 30 days to go before the campaign will draw to a close.

Set in the semi-open world of Camp Crystal Lake, developers hope to revitalise the "golden era of slashers", whilst putting players "at the controls of each horrific, blood-splattered moment".

They also confirm details surrounding just what those who play as Jason will be able to get up to.

"You get to stalk camp counselors in Camp Crystal Lake and brutally kill in new and inventive ways (as well as some that will seem all too familiar). Grab a counselor in a choke hold, pick them up off the ground, and smash their face into a tree. Repeatedly. Or how about lifting a counselor up above your head as they kick and scream, holding them aloft long enough to walk near a rack of farm spikes to slam your victim down upon them? Yes, you get to do that because that's what Jason does. He's an unflinching, brutal killing force; the ultimate predator, and for the first time ever YOU control this horror icon."

Kane Hodder has officially signed up to return to the iconic horror character for the first time in 14 years, doing all of the motion capture and directing his team of stunt men to capture "the most brutal animations possible - professionals that can take the physical abuse that Kane will put them through."

Originally conceived as a multiplayer experience only, the Kickstarter does hint that a single player may be possible in the future dependant on just where the campaign takes them.
