The new 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection' patch lays the groundwork for cross-generation multiplayer support for Xbox Series X and S.

The latest update - version 1.1871.0.0 - is available now for users on PC and Xbox One, and there is some details regarding the title supporting play across generations.

In the notes, it's been confirmed that the update makes "improvements to cross-generation play in advance of the upcoming launch of Xbox Series X and Series S hardware".

MCC will also get cross-play support between PC and Xbox One gamers, but the feature is yet to launch.

Meanwhile, other changes made in the patch - which clocks in at 4.8 GB on Xbox One, 2.62 GB for the Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pas on the PC and just 50.7 MB on Steam - include a handful of "stability" updates, alongside changes to customisation.
