'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' was the big winner at The Game Awards.

The popular title took home a hat-trick of prizes, including the most coveted of all, Game of the Year, at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on Thursday (07.12.17).

Game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi said: "I'm really happy I ended up making games.

"On behalf of all the staff who worked on the game let me once again say thank you so much.

"The game design of 'Breath of the Wild' is the result of long hours of work by many people on the development staff to create an adventure that takes on new challenges."

'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' was also awarded Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game.

Other triple winners on the night included the Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice studio as their title picked up Best Audio, Best Performance, and the Games For Impact prize.

What's more, 'Cuphead' won Best Independent Game, Best Indie Debut Game, and Best Art Direction.

Other success stories including 'Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus' winning Best action Game, 'Persona 5' took home Best Roleplaying Game and 'Injustice 2' was victorious in the Best Fighting Game category.

It was also a good night for the 'Super Mario Odyssey' studio as they won Best Family Game.
