Hawaii state representative Chris Lee has hit out at what he considers to be "predatory practices" in the sphere of video games, citing the likes of 'Star Wars Battlefront 2' as a specific example, saying it is a "Star Wars-themed online casino".

In a statement uploaded to YouTube, he explained: "[Star Wars Battlefront 2 is] designed to lure kids into spending money."

In particular, he is aggrieved that players can receive loot boxes that contain random rewards either by playing the title, or by purchasing them with real money.

More recently, Electronic Arts has decided to end the in-game purchases of these loot boxes.

The technology firm is currently making changes to the title, and fans are eagerly awaiting the latest developments.

Although legislative changes are sure to take a while to pass through all of the legal channels, they are likely to have a major impact on the games industry.

A number of other popular titles - such as 'FIFA 18', 'Overwatch' and 'League of Legends' - also feature 'loot box' mechanics.
