The action role-playing brawler video game was released in September this year for current consoles, including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.

And although developers at Crystal Dynamics and publishers at Square Enix were set to release a version for next generation consoles when they launch later this year, the plans have been put on hold until 2021.

Crystal Dynamics said the delay - which will affect the PlayStation 5, and both the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S - comes as it needs more time to deliver a "next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be”.

In a blog post detailing a host of updates to the game, they added: “We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be. More details to come.”

Until the game drops for the new consoles, players will still be able to play the title on the current consoles, and can experience better frame rates and faster loading times, with progress set to carry over onto the new consoles once the game is released next year.

Upgrading to the next-gen version of the game will be free for players who already have a version of the title for their current console.
