Nintendo have been entertaining us for years, since the first console was released in 1986. The Nintendo Entertainment System (aka NES) allowed players to enjoy games such as Donkey Kong on a TV set at home and it was very well-received, especially by children.

Now, Nintendo have developed into a massively successful company, entering the battle for best console along with Xbox and PlayStation.

Nintendo’s previous successes, the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite, were beloved by fans as their favourite games such as ones from the Mario franchise, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons could be played on a bigger and better console.

Moving on from the Nintendo DS, the Switch allowed players to connect their handheld console to their TV, creating a big screen version of any game; while the Lite was compact and, while only allowing handheld mode, still created a buzz as the pastel colours and mobile features made the console a fan favourite.

On October 8th, 2021 however, fans of Nintendo will be able to get their hands on a new and improved version of the Nintendo Switch.

The new console, called the Nintendo Switch (OLED model), offers a range of brand-new and upgraded features to make this console the best it’s ever been.

Features of the new model are set to make it a great addition to the collection of consoles already available; the new console is a similar size to the Nintendo Switch, but has a larger and more vibrant 7-inch OLDED screen with bright, vivid colours and high contrast.

The OLED model includes a wide adjustable stand for tabletop playing, as opposed to the thinner stand on previous models. It also has a new dock with a wired LAN port for stable online play, 64GB of internal storage, and on-board speakers with enhanced audio for both tabletop and handheld play.

As with the Nintendo Switch, the OLED model allows its users to connect the console to their TV, and share the detachable Joy-Con controllers, so more people can play.

The Nintendo Switch (OLED model), much like its predecessor, will be available in different colours; from a version with white Joy-Con controllers, a black console and white dock, to a neon red or neon blue set, with colourful controllers and a black dock and black console.

For any players wanting to transfer their data from an old console to the new one, you can find out on the Nintendo support website.

The exciting new Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will be available October 8th, 2021!
