Nintendo Switch owners are set for a longer wait than expected to play 'Pokemon RPG'.

Nintendo created a huge buzz when it announced at E3 2017 that it was developing a new role playing game based around the pocket monster characters.

It was believed that the title would hit the console in 2018 but now the game is being advertised for "2018 or later" with the likely release date being 2019.

The game is being developed under the working title 'Pokemon Stars' and little is known about the story or gameplay.

The Pokemon Company's Tsunekazu Ishihara gave the news that the RPG was being made at Nintendo's E3 Direct conference, revealing that Game Freak was working on the adventure.

Reggie Fils-Aime - President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America - did reveal that the game would feature the classic 'Pokemon' hallmarks and would be a "traditional find, battle, train type experience".

The next 'Pokemon' game that will be released is 'Pokken Tournament DX', which will hit the Nintendo Switch on September 22 The title is a port of the Wii U fighting game and it will have a range of new features including a 3-v-3 Team Battle mode and Group Match mode and there will also be five additional playable characters such as Decidueye, Litten and Popplio.
