Sony has confirmed the first 'Call of Duty: WWII' map pack will be called The Resistance.

The gaming giant made the announcement at its Paris Games Week showcase, revealing it will make the launch on January 30 for PlayStation 4.

Another three map packs will follow after The Resistance but details for those are not yet known.

But the first map pack will not be available to PC or Xbox One players for another 30 days.

While not much is known about The Resistance, gamers have speculated the name suggests it will be about French resistance.

Earlier this month, Activision confirmed an updated version of Carentan, a map which featured on classic games 'Call of Duty', 'Call of Duty: United Offensive', and 'Call of Duty 2', will also appear on 'Call of Duty: WWII'.

The game developer confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: "Carentan is coming to #CODWWII Multiplayer! Read all about it right here. (sic)"

The map is based on the real-life Battle of Carentan, which took place between June 10 and June 15 1944 in the rural French town.

It saw US forces push German soldiers back, becoming a key part of the Battle of Normandy.

Activision wrote on their blog: "Carentan will be made available at launch as a Bonus Map for all Season Pass holders.

"The Season Pass for Call of Duty: WWII is already bursting at the seams, but the addition of Carentan puts it over the top. (sic)"

'Call of Duty: WWII' is released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 3.
