Microsoft is currently working on the app and it is being tested internally before consumers get their hands on it.

The update was first discovered by Reddit users, who noted that Microsoft community manager Major Nelson was using something called Spotify Music for Xbox.

And sources have since confirmed to The Verge that the app is in development, after years of Spotify only being available on the PS3 and PS4.

Meanwhile, Microsoft recently announced an Xbox One update that will make the console "faster".

The technology giant has created a host of improvements to the popular console, including a revamped Home Screen that "focus[es] on speed, customisation, and expression".

Microsoft, of course, only reworked the user interface of the Xbox One console back in March - but it has since been busily working on updates designed to improve the user's gaming experience.

And the firm has just previewed another redesigned version of its UI, which ought to make it a more user-friendly console.

Explaining the ambitions behind the latest update, Microsoft's Mike Ybarra said: "The team is always pushing to make the Xbox experience faster and faster.

"In this release, we've eliminated the wait between Home, Social, and My Games and Apps by consolidating them into one dashboard experience. No more splash screens means you get to fun even faster."

What's more, Microsoft has revealed that the Guide has also been changed once again, with improved speed being cited as the central focus of the update.

Following the latest improvements, tabs are now horizontal, as opposed to the current vertical arrangement, while the console's "action centre" features a link to system settings.
