The studio has announced the latest instalment in the long running franchise is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC later this year.

The upcoming title will put a real time spin on the classic turn based combat, with 32 players clashing in the popular slapstick battles.

An announcement trailer was released on Wednesday (01.07.20), with Team 17 confirming a new style of game play with the same side-on perspective - and even its own Battle Royale mode.

The arenas will be partly destructible, and classic weapons like the Bazooka, Sheep, Holy Hand Grenade, Banana Bomb and more have all been referenced.

The pacing will be the biggest departure, with the slow and more deliberate combat replaced by worms able to roll, dodge and wall jump.

As well as the classic Deathmatch, gamers will also be able to enjoy Battle Royale-esque Last Worm Standing and Last Squad Standing modes.

Meanwhile, the studio has also promised daily challenges, seasonal events and community collaborations to give players additional XP.

This XP - as well as in-game currency - can be used to unlock rewards including outfits, accessories and weapon skins.
