Bloober Team, responsible for incredible horror titles Blair Witch and Layers of Fear, as well as Observer: System Redux, have this week debuted the latest trailer for their upcoming video game The Medium, which showcases the dual-reality gameplay mechanic for puzzle-solving, as well as psychic abilities and the dangerous Maw.

You can see the 14-minute teaser for yourself below:

Players take control of Marianne; a woman who's gifted with a number of psychic abilities that she must combine to overcome the obstacles of both the real world and the spirit world.

At times, you’ll be forced to tackle challenges in each of these worlds, and for around a third of the game, you will experience both realms simultaneously with the split-screen dual-reality mechanic as seen in the new teaser.

Marianne's abilities include a Spirit Shield and Spirit Blast, which will both help protect her from the dangers that lurk around every corner, as she fights to untangle the mystery of the haunted Niwa resort.

Famed voice actor Troy Baker stars, voicing the villainous Maw who serves as the main antagonist throughout the game. Just like Marianne, The Maw can travel between realms and chases our protagonist, hoping to slay her before she can bring them down.

The fiend is invisible in the material world, but also blind; meaning they rely solely on hearing to locate their prey. In the spirit world meanwhile, The Maw is visible and easily spotted - but also able to easily spot Marianne who must protect herself with her talents.

As Bloober Team's most ambitious project to-date, The Medium is available now to pre-order and download ahead of release. You can also download the game as part of Xbox Game Pass. Those who pre-order on Steam will receive The Medium Original Soundtrack and the digital artbook The Art of The Medium.

The Medium will be released for Xbox Series X|S and PC on January 28th, 2021.
