Turtle Beach have led the way with gaming headsets for some time now, and with the recent launch of their Atlas series, we couldn't wait to get our hands on a pair to see just how they had stepped up their game.
Gifted the Atlas Three in exchange for this very review, we paired up the £69.99 cans with our gaming laptop to see if they delivered on the promise of "powerful amplified Windows Sonic surround sound and more."
The first thing any gamer will notice with a new headset is whether or not they're comfortable. When you're in some intense battles, or fighting your way through dungeons with friends online, you don't want a very literal headache causing the ultimate distraction. The metal headband with Atlas Three includes a suspended pad as well as interchangable memory foam ear cushions, and feel as close to perfection as a headset of this sort ever could.
Gamers with glasses - such as myself - have often struggled in finding a headset that allows for free movement; that search ends with this series. The ProSpecs design removes pressure on your frames as you play, giving those with specs the best gaming experience they're likely to have ever had.
When it comes to sound quality, my experience is a fantastic one. All audio was crystal clear throughout use over the past month or so, and those on the other side of the screen - who were listening to me from various points all across the globe - assured me that my own speech and communication was clearer than they'd heard before. The removable, flip-up microphone is the perfect length; some in the past have gotten in the way of vision, but Turtle Beach have done a great job here of ensuring that's not the case.
The difference between this headset and many others that have come from Turtle Beach throughout the years - especially those more geared towards consoles than PC gaming - is that these have to be recharged. That may be a little frustrating for some gamers, but with over 40-hours battery life, it's hard to complain!
Whether you're just starting out your journey with laptop gaming, you're more of a seasoned player, or you're a professional, the Atlas range promises to have something to fit your needs.
Turtle Beach's Atlas One (£39.99), Atlas Three (£69.99) and Elite Atlas (£89.99) headsets are all available now.
