Cheryl Cole helps us to workout better

Cheryl Cole is not only inspiring our fashion and beauty choices ladies, she's helping us to get fit too.

It can sometimes be tough to find the motivation to push yourself in a gym workout, however research by Shock Absorber has found that 77 per cent of women believe they work harder and longer in the gym when listening to specially selected music.

To mark the launch of its Ultimate Gym Bra, which features a handy headphone wire clip, Shock Absorber has teamed up with Dr Costas Karageorghis, a global expert in music and exercise, to reveal the beneficial effects of listening to music during exercise.

Dr Karageorghis and his team at Brunel University in London found that people were able to endure exercise for 15 per cent longer when listening to motivational music.  Songs like ‘Call My Name’ by Cheryl Cole that have a music tempo between 125–140bpm, are preferred by exercisers.

Shock Absorber has recommended the latest ‘Top 10 Gym Workout Tracks’ (tested and compiled by Dr Karageorghis, Brunel University) based on this research.

1.     Call My Name, Cheryl (128 bpm)

2.     We Found Love, Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris (129 bpm)

3.     Both of Us, B.o.B ft. Taylor Swift (127 bpm)

4.     Titanium, David Guetta ft Sia (126 bpm)

5.     Levels, AviCii (127 bpm)

6.     Domino, Jessie J (127 bpm)

7.     Let Me Love You, Ne-Yo (126 bpm)

8.     Spectrum (Say My Name) [Calvin Harris Remix], Florence and the Machine (126 bpm)

9.     Don’t Wake Me Up, Chris Brown (128 bpm)

10.  Good Time, Owl City & Carly Rae-Jepsen (135 bpm)

Dr Karageorghis commented: “Music is an effective psychological stimulant that can change the way we perceive the gym environment and bring about significant improvements in both exercise performance and how we feel.”

Most women listen to music through their MP3 players when in the gym, however more than half of the women said the headphone cord irritates them if not securely fastened. The Shock Absorber Ultimate Gym Bra features a headphone wire clip that ensures you can listen to music with no distractions, enabling you to fully focus on your workout.

Martina Alexander, Marketing Manager at Shock Absorber UK commented: “The Ultimate Gym Bra has been developed to allow women to focus on their workout knowing they have maximum support and comfort. Understanding the importance of music to so many women’s workouts made the headphone wire clip the perfect addition to complete the Ultimate Gym Bra.”
