As Davina McCall launches her brand new DVD 'Davina 7 Minute Fit: Part Two' exclusively on QVC, her trainer Ed Lumsden tells us how he helped the mum-of-three get her super smokin' body.

3 simple rules: Train hard, train smart and train abs.

  1. We started by mixing up her training programme. Davina was already fit but had worked mainly on her endurance for her Sport Relief challenge. My aim was to use shorter bursts of high intensity training. This is tough when you're not used to it but if you stick with it, your fitness levels start to go through the roof.
  2. Secondly, we worked much more on strength training than she had done previously, not by lifting the heaviest weights possible, but working on technique, posture, speed, control and stability. This means we can train the body harder without actually lifting heavier weights or training for longer - just by 'training smarter'.
  3. The third part of the training was to completely change the way Davina used her abdominal muscles. Most trainers focus their 'core' training on stability work and hip flexor exercises. I like to use these as a supplement because the main focus is on the lower abdominals, pelvis position and TVA activation. This gives your lower back an incredible level of support, helps correct postural problems and gives you killer abs!

Ed comments: 'That's why Davina 7 Minute Fit' is so great - you can just do a section here and there in- between picking up the kids, going to work and doing all your other jobs! Walking or running are great too as you don't need any equipment - just put your shoes on and get out of the door!
