Eating healthily is the key to overall health

You can’t run on empty, to ensure your body has enough fuel to keep you going, here we have top tips and advice on healthy eating.

Admit it—you love to eat but end up feeling guilty for indulging in food after a long, hard workout. However, there’s no need to feel guilty or even ignore your stomach’s grumbling.

Fitness First have provided some great healthy eating tips during Friday’s Healthy Eating Day to ensure that you are fueling up the smart way.

Many health experts concur that combining a healthy, balanced diet with your exercise routine is key to maintaining good health.

Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, and lean meat because they are important for a balanced diet. Stray away from fried and fatty foods and instead eat baked, steamed, or grilled foods. Opt for whole, unprocessed items because processed foods contain less nutritional value. Plan your meals ahead of time because spur of the moment food decisions tend to be less healthful. Lastly, eat at regular intervals to combat end-of-the-day overeating.

Here are a few healthy snack ideas and a healthy dinner recipe to try:

Smart snacks:

  • Greek yoghurt with chopped fruit
  • Homemade trail mix with low-fat cereal, nuts, dried fruit, and dark chocolate chips
  • Raw veggies and hummus
  • Graham crackers with low-fat cream cheese and sliced red grapes
  • Celery with peanut butter and raisins
