Do you do anything weird whilst working out?

Do you do anything weird whilst working out?

Getting into shape for summer is the main priority for some at this time, but finding something fun and enjoyable should be the main concern.

One too many times we've given up because we're bored of the exercise routine, but that doesn't have to be the case.

With that in mind, Shock Absorber has delved into the world of quirky workouts and handpicked some of the most weird and wonderful, past and present.

The infectious nature of today’s media has meant the latest fitness crazes are given national and often global exposure. For example, Made In Chelsea’s ‘Doga’, a yoga class for dogs. But how did people find these workouts before the days of YouTube?

Shock Absorber has picked out the following workouts to try, or simply admire:

1. Poodle Exercise with Humans Video maker Nagi Noda introduces a bizarre and frightening workout of herself with giant mutant poodles. Originally created for a Panasonic promotion during the 2004 Olympics.

2. Prancercise Originally developed by eccentric fitness teacher Joanna Roherback, Florida, back in 1989. The routine resembles a horses gait and has achieved global notoriety through a recent circulation on YouTube, where it has received more than 6.5 million views so far.

3. Laughercise Fitness instructor Kerry Beard teaches the benefits of incorporating laughter into your exercise. The YouTube video dates back to 2007 and has over 1.7 million views so far. The hugely contagious workout was also picked up by Fox News in 2009.

4. Miss Piggy’s Snackcercise Performed on ‘The Fantastic Miss Piggy Show’ in 1982. Typical exercises include the ‘banana splits’ and working out on the ‘candy bars’, without the need for perspiration.

5. Treadmill Dance A recent internet meme celebrated this man’s treadmill dancing at a gym in Jacksonville, Florida. The YouTube video has received over 2.5 million views so far and the story has been picked up by popular news sites and blogs.

Martina Alexander, Marketing Manager at Shock Absorber UK, commented: “It was fun to look back over time at the most bizarre workouts, and also interesting to see how far we’ve come. No matter what your chosen workout is, it’s important to have the support from a correctly fitting sports bra.”
