World Mental Health day aims to end the stigma around speaking out about mental health

This date aims to provide the opportunity to raise awareness about mental health around the world.

Last year, almost 6,000 suicides were registered in the UK, a harsh reminder that mental health is still a major problem in today’s society.

Today, the push to end the stigma is stronger than ever, but there is still work to be done.

People have been taking to social media to help end the stigma against speaking out about mental health, tips to manage everyday stress, and advice on how to cope if you feel you are struggling.

Sometimes it is hard to know what to say if you’re the person that’s being reached out to. People and organisations have been sharing advice on how to deal with that, too.

For advice on supporting someone struggling with their mental health, or for advice on how to get help, there are now more charities than ever to help.

Young Minds

020 7336 8445 is the helpline that provides advice for anyone with concerns about the mental health of a child or young person.

Childline

0800 1111 is a free national helpline for children and young people who feel at danger.

Nightline

A service run by students, for students, that listen and support.

Samaritans

116 123 is a free helpline available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
