Joe & Jack

TV vet Joe Inglis has always been passionate about the way we feed our pets, realising early on in his veterinary career that diet was one of the most important factors in keeping pets fit and healthy. And a fit and healthy pet means lower vet bills!

Joe says, "I realised early on in my career that diet can have a significant effect on the health of our pets. Health issues may be caused by ingredients hidden behind generic terms on pet food labels meaning that owners can never be sure of the true contents. Some ingredients could cause allergies and intolerances, some may be hard to digest and artificial additives are increasingly being linked to behavioural problems such as hyperactivity. Natural foods, with open and honest ingredients’ lists and no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, can potentially prevent some of these problems - and help pet owners avoid paying out for a cure instead."

Joe began devising home-cooked recipes for dogs and cats in his surgery, and soon began to see the benefits that feeding these fresh, natural meals was having, especially on those pets with chronic health issues such as skin and digestive problems. In 2005, Joe took the healthy principles of his home-cooked recipes and turned them into everyday complete diets that pets all over the country could share with the launch of Joe & Jack’s and Joe & Jill’s natural pet foods.

As a UK dog food supplier, all Joe & Jack's and Joe & Jill’s products are made in the UK, using local produce wherever possible, and are packed full of healthy natural ingredients with absolutely no artificial additives. They are tasted, and approved, by Joe’s dog Jack, his cat Jill and their friends and never, ever tested on unwilling animals.

Joe & Jack's fresh dinners are delicious wet complete meals for dogs, made using fresh meat, vegetables and rice that is simply minced together and steam-cooked in the tray. The trays can be kept at room temperature for up to a year, thanks to the innovative pressure-cooking process that seals all the goodness in whilst keeping bugs firmly out and, once opened, can be kept in the fridge for 3-5 days. Each 395g tray will keep a small (10kg) dog full and happy for a whole day.

But, in these times of credit crunch, don’t confuse premium quality with premium price. Honest or ‘real’ pet food – free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives - does not need to break the bank. Indeed, a price comparison between Joe & Jack’s Complete Fresh Chicken & Rice Dinner with Cesar…A Little More Refined Select Recipes Dog Food reveals that honestly natural is honestly cheaper – by the big bite of £580 a year! (Based on recommended intake of both for a 10Kg dog at recommended retail prices November 2008.)

And it doesn’t stop there! Not only healthy, natural and competitively priced, Joe & Jack’s Complete Fresh Chicken & Rice Dinner is the UK’s first mainstream pet food to use only FREE RANGE chicken meat. This move comes soon after Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s “Chicken Out” campaign demanded higher welfare conditions for chickens farmed in the UK, because “free range is fairer” (www.chickenout.tv).

Tesco, the number one retailer in the dog and cat food market with a 28.8% value share (TNS 52w/e 10 August 2008), are embracing the free-range and natural direction that the pet food markets are taking with the decision to stock Joe & Jack’s Natural Dinners in 331 stores across the UK from this month. Joe & Jack’s Free Range Chicken Dinners and Joe & Jack’s Fresh Lamb Dinners are exclusive to Tesco for the next six months.
