If you have already reduced a lot of the jewellery in your box, but still feel there are a few things to go, here are some questions you might like to ask yourself to have the minimalist jewellery collection of your dreams:

Is all the jewellery in your box of a high quality?

Is all the jewellery in your box of a high quality?

What style of jewellery do you wear the most? Do you favour smaller dainty pieces, large statement pieces, colourful pieces or more neutral items when it comes to your jewellery? Whatever you wear the most should help you determine which one you prefer, and this is your personal jewellery style.

Write down what you like the most in a piece of jewellery and what you don’t.

What feels natural and unnatural to you? Ideally your jewellery should be an extension of you so you shouldn’t be too conscious of it while you are wearing it. Perhaps you like the look of a bracelet on your wrist, but the reality is- you constantly readjust it and find it to be a distraction. You might be better suited to earrings and rings that will stay in place. Maybe you don’t like the way a necklace feels around your neck and you would prefer to go without one.

Write down what feels right and what feels wrong on your body.

What colours do you wear most? Think about which colours you wear a lot from your closet and then take each piece of jewellery and pair it with an item of clothing in your mind. If you have pieces left over that don’t go with anything you wear- perhaps it’s time to let these go.

Write down which piece goes with which outfit.

Can you repurpose anything in your jewellery box rather than buy new? If there is something that you haven’t worn for a while but still like- ask yourself why you haven’t gravitated towards it. Do you want a piece of jewellery to match it to make a set? If so, you only need invest in one item rather than two or three to make a brand new set. Does it need cleaning? Perhaps it’s time to give it a freshen up with some specialised cleaner.

Write down what you want to keep but what you need to do in order to encourage you to use these items more.

Does your jewellery have meaning? Do you have pieces passed down from relatives? Are there pieces in the box that contain your birthstone? Do you own pieces that were bought at specific times in your life? If so, these are important to keep as they tell a story. Anything you bought because it was cheap, because it looked good with an outfit you no longer own or because it was fashionable at the time might be the ones to get rid of as they won’t bring you any joy to wear them.

Write down which pieces of jewellery have a backstory and discard ones that don’t make you feel anything when you put them on.

Does your jewellery have a dual purpose? Do all the pieces in your box have multiple uses? Could you wear something on an everyday basis but dress it up for an evening outing? Anything that stands out on its own as having just one purpose might be one to relieve yourself of because you can’t wear it very often, if at all. Try to opt for generic pieces that will stand the test of time.

Write down which of your items of jewellery have a dual purpose.

Is all your jewellery of a high quality? Look through your pieces and establish if they are good or poor quality. Try to keep the ones that will last a lifetime with a bit of love and attention and ditch anything that is showing signs of being badly made.

Write down everything that has a solid future in the box and remove anything that doesn’t stand a chance.
