Reese Witherspoon's beautiful blonde hair is easy to emulate

Changing your hair colour as we change through the seasons is something that  a lot of women tend to do. It’s time for a new wardrobe and a new look.

Seen as the summer weather has finally decided to make an appearance we’ve decided to take a look at the summer colour trends for your hair and find the celebrity inspiration behind them.

JOICO® Celebrity Colourist George Papanikolas tends to many A-list tresses including Hayden Penetiere, Miranda Kerr, Mila Kunis, Lindsey Lohan, Megan Fox and Britney Spears, he shares his tips and tricks to attaining the look.

Summer Blondes: High Voltage Lights

Trend Overview

Light, bright and dazzling! Summer’s high-intensity bombshells are unapologetically flaxen. Pale base colours are ignited by pops of lighter, brighter highlights.

Tips and Tricks

“Highlights tend to become too dark on the ends, and this look requires bright and evenly applied colour. Once your hairdresser has applying the highlight formula at the roots, ask them to gently backcomb the ends and add more bleach to diffuse the ends, so it won’t look like you’ve simply dipped your ends in bleach”, says George.

Shades

If your natural level is light, lift highlights to an icy blonde. If your hair is darker, lift to golden blonde.

Best for Maintenance

Double process blonding can compromise hair health. Daily use of JOICO® K-Pak RevitaLuxe Bio-Advanced Restorative Treatment (£15.95) is essential for reconditioning and rebuilding strands.

Redheads: Born with IT Colour

Trend Overview

Soft, natural strawberry shades. Summer redheads are taking a break from vivid hues this season, in favour of gentler, real looking rosy-golden hues.

Tips and Tricks

“Ask your hairdresser to use a combination of gold and copper tones to avoid a 'too red' result.

Stay away from high-contrast highlights, instead ask your colourist to balayage a few sections and lift them to a golden copper for subtle dimension. Over-highlighting a redhead runs the risk of causing the colour to 'read' blonde,” George explains.

Shades

If your skin is pale, opt for a copper or strawberry tone. If your complexion is olive, opt for an auburn or cool red shade, think Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

Best for Maintenance

JOICO® K-PAK Color Therapy Shampoo (£14.95), Conditioner (£15.95) and Restorative Styling Oil (£15.95) double the life of hair colour vibrancy and increase shine by 50%.

Summer Brunettes: Sun-Dappled

Trend Overview

Rich chocolate base shades kissed with soft, honey-coloured ombré highlights.

Tips and Tricks

“Ombré highlights can be retouched as little as twice a year, but visit your hairdresser every six weeks for a gloss treatment to leave you with always-fresh results” says George.

Best for Maintenance

Brunette shades look healthiest when they’re soft and shiny. JOICO® Smooth Cure System: Shampoo (£12.95), Conditioner (£13.95), Leave-In Rescue Treatment (£12.95), and Thermal Styling Protectant (£12.95) provides 24-hour high humidity protection and reduces frizz by 79%.
