Meg Matthews and daughter Anais make their pledge

Meg Mathews has selected her top 5 cruelty-free summer beauty products as part of her support for Humane Society International’s Be Cruelty-Free campaign to end cruel animal testing of cosmetics.

Meg – a vegan, long-time animal advocate, and ethical fashion designer – is a strong believer in beauty without cruelty. She and daughter Anaïs both signed Be Cruelty-Free pledges to raise awareness about HSI’s global campaign that has already celebrated seeing an end to cosmetics cruelty throughout the European Union, Norway, Israel and India.

Meg joins other global stars such as Leona Lewis, Ricky Gervais, Owain Yeoman and Paul McCartney in giving Be Cruelty-Free their backing.

Meg said: “When I put on my make-up, I can look myself in the mirror with a clear conscience because I know that not a single rabbit, guinea pig or mouse has suffered pain to test my beauty products. Country by country, cosmetics animal testing is being banned because it's cruel and unnecessary. I want the whole world to #BeCrueltyFree.”

Meg’s cruelty-free must-haves:

1.  Hurraw! Lip balm - it's important to keep lips hydrated in the hot weather, and this fabulous range of lip balms are natural, vegan, organic and fair trade and they come in a huge range of funky colours and flavours including lime, chai spice, coffee bean and root beer!

2.  Liz Earle Botanical After Sun Gel - in the summer, nourished skin is happy skin and nothing nourishes your skin quite like Liz Earle Botanicals. This after sun gel is made with aloe vera, lavender, cucumber & added vitamin E to sooth and calm sun-exposed skin.

3.  Tara Smith vegan haircare Feed the Root Conditioner - Hair can dry out in the heat but my good friend Tara Smith has a vegan hair care range that's to die for. I love the Feed the Root Conditioner which was also an Elle Beauty Award Winner

4.  Foundation with added SPF like Bare Minerals Ready Foundation SPF 20 is a must-have summer product. SPF-enhanced make up gives your skin that little bit of added protection against sun aging and damage whilst giving you a flawless look at the same time

5.  Summer is about getting out there and having fun, so a killer lip stick is essential. Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipstick really rocks, it's got a super-creamy texture and is made with jojoba oil, avocado oil, cocoa butter and shea butter so its moisturizing properties are insane! I love the colour range too -  'Anarchy' is a really deep pink and great for summer nights.

Did you know that testing cosmetics on live animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs is still legal in approximately 80 per cent of countries around the world? HSI estimates that around half a million animals suffer and die in cosmetics tests every year. However, with Be Cruelty-Free campaigns calling for change in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Russia, Taiwan and the United States, Meg feels confident we will soon see a world without cosmetics cruelty.
