6.1 million Brits reveal problems with love life and family life to complete strangers Whilst 6.6 million reveal problems at work to people they do not know Yet 6.6 million regret doing it the next day 6.1 million just do it because they are drunk

People in Britain are willing to pour their heart out and share personal details about their love life, family life and work problems with complete strangers, research by secure online payment provider PayPal reveals.

Too much information

The research, looking at how much information people in Britain unwittingly reveal about themselves to people they have known for less than 24 hours, has revealed that it’s no holds barred, and Brits literally do not know when to shut up.

3 million people (7%) admitted that they open up about what is wrong with their love life to almost complete strangers, whilst double the amount of people reveal problems at work, 11% (4.8 million) also open up about their private medical problems, with a quarter of women (6 million) also divulging their bra size and dress size to people they do not know.

No regrets?

Worryingly for Brits however, 6.6 million (15%) say they regretted sharing their secrets the next day, and over a quarter (29%) say they were not even sure why they chose to talk about their problems to people they do not know. A further 15% said too much because they were drunk.

Cristina Hoole, from PayPal comments:”The research has revealed that people in Britain aren’t backwards in coming forwards, and seem to have a no holds barred policy when it comes to revealing information about themselves. Britons admitted to sharing anything from medical problems to love life problems with almost total strangers. However, we also saw a lot of people regretting it the next day, often with a hangover to boot.”

“There is of course a serious point to be made; people need to be careful about giving away too much information such as financial or medical details to people they do not know which can leave you open to unscrupulous people out there. For anyone looking to add a reinforced level of protection PayPal provides that piece of mind so that when shopping online or by mobile, your financial details are not revealed. In today’s world when information can be shared at the touch of a button, it pays to be a little bit cautious from time to time.”

The research also revealed that 20% of people in Britain divulged their secrets to strangers they met on the bus and will never see again, with four in ten people (43%) opening up to a stranger at a party, with 36% of people telling all on a first date.
