Chanel will sponsor the Royal Costume Show in Versailles, according to new reports.

The "Fastes de Cour & Cérémonies Royales", or "Court Pomp & Royal Ceremony" as it's also known, opened yesterday and will run until 28th June.

According to WWD, the exhibition showcases European costumes from 1650 to 1800, and is sure to draw in the fashion crowds from around the world.

The exhibition reportedly took 14 years to get off the ground, and features clothing and jewellery on display from European monarchies, including Germany, Russia, Vienna, Denmark and Sweden.

Judging by Karl Lagerfeld's foreward, we're in for quite a show as he reveals the ‘exceptional splendour' of the 17th and 18th century monarchical costumes, are where he finds his inspiration, reports Grazia.

He writes, "Nothing was too beautiful or too expensive" and "One had to dazzle to impose..." How very true Karl.
