Fashion giant Gap are seeking the help of designer Diane von Furstenburg in a bid to boose sales of their baby and children's range. The call comes after the store has made some fashion missteps they are trying to amend.

Famous for floral prints and wrap dresses, von Furstenburg is set to create a children's line - comprising of a toned-down palette going against bright colours and prints that are all the rage.

The collection will be housed in over 30 stores across the US, China and Japon and will be ready by 2012. It was also be available online, according to Gap.

After its success in the 1990s, Gap sales have since been on the decline and the once very popular store is now looking to be aided by von Furstenburg - who since taking back her own company is now developing perfumes, cosmetics and a homeline.

It has been a trying time for Gap as last month they fired their top designer, Patrick Robinson, after he failed to do anything to fight against its poor performance. The search for a replacement is currently underway, a spokesperson told Reuters.

With any luck the influence of such as highly regarded designer in Diane von Furstenburg will bridge a Gap for the store.
