The 37-year-old royal donned a bangle by London-based designer Sophie McKay - who uses recycled silver and avoids chemicals in the manufacturing process - on a recent official visit to Birkenhead, Merseyside, North West England, with her husband Prince Harry and the creator was thrilled to see the former actress in the Wide Ripple Bracelet.

The gold-plated accessory was handmade in London by "local factories and skilled artisans" and according to company's website, "positive, ethical and sustainable practice are central to the brand ethos".

Designer Sophie told People magazine: "It's amazing that high-profile people like Meghan are promoting brands like mine; it's so great that the royal family supports us.

"Even if people can't afford to buy the exact same piece of jewellery, it's making people think about not using plastic and buying less, it's about being more thoughtful in general."

It's not the first time Sophie has catered for royalty and when Queen Elizabeth attended London Fashion Week last February, she visited the jeweller's stand and the pair chatted about another sustainable feature of the brand.

Recalling the moment, Sophie said: "She said the designs were very nice and we spoke about local production, how everything is made in London - it was very cool and a complete surprise!"

During the visit, Meghan also re-wore wore a pair of gold earrings from ethical label Pippa Small, which were made by the Afghanistan-based charity set up by Prince Harry's father, Prince Charles, Turquoise Mountain Foundation.
