The 26-year-old model is filled with "anxiety and panic" before she graces the runway for a prestigious fashion house, and she can't shake the unsettling feeling or pinpoint why fashion presentations leaves her with so much dread that makes her want to flee to the comfort of her parent Sophie Hicks.

Speaking to the Times newspaper about her feelings, the brunette beauty said: "The air is heavy with anxiety and panic. I can't work out why that is, no matter how much I try to locate why I don't like being there, but there is something that makes me want to back slowly towards the door and run screaming to my mum."

And the catwalk icon - who fronts Yves Saint Laurent's Black Opium fragrance campaign - has revealed the designer label wanted their commercial to capture "more active sexiness" because she dislikes adverts, which see the models turn into ethereal characters after one spray of scent.

She said: "I hate that perfume-advert thing where she walks across the room, spritzes herself with perfume and turns into a fairy. That never happens to me. They've updated this to make it a more active sexiness.!

Meanwhile Edie - who studied History of Art at London's Courtauld Institute of Art - has admitted she would have loved to have a career in the art industry, although the salary she receives from her successful career in the fashion industry, as well as the inspiring people in the business, were more enticing for her.

She said: "I'd love to do something with my degree, but when somebody tells you that the starting salary in the art history world is £12k, if you're lucky, it's kind of a no-brainer. I'd rather do the thing that can give me total freedom to do whatever I want in three years' time. Also, you don't get opportunities to work with the most amazing creative minds like I do if you go into an entry-level job in a gallery."
