Eight months after the iconic musician died following his secret battle with cancer, his 61-year-old widow made a brave public appearance at Tom Ford's Fall 2016 collection show at New York Fashion Week on Wednesday (07.09.16).

Alongside a picture of her on Instagram wearing an electric-blue velvet suit featuring a plunging neckline, with her luscious brown locks cascading over her shoulders, Iman wrote: "Made It My First Night Out! Thanks @tomford for a very glam but intimate presentation. (sic)"

Earlier that night, she posted a picture with her hair wrapped in a towel, and added: "My first night out attending an event since last year!"

The Somali-born fashion model, actress and entrepreneur has had a difficult year as just two months after David's death, her mother Marian Abdulmajid also passed away.

She's rarely been seen at any showbiz events since but has paid tribute to her late husband - who she married in 1992 - many times since he passed away in January at the age of 69.

On Father's Day back in June she took to Instagram and shared a picture of the 'Space Oddity' hitmaker cradling their daughter Lexi when she was just a baby.

She captioned the image: "Happy Fathers Day #LexiLove (sic)"

Earlier that month, Iman remembered the Ziggy Stardust star on their 24th wedding anniversary and posted them together, writing: "June 6th..., 24th wedding anniversary #foreverlove (sic)"

The picture had the words "The best thing about me is you" written on it.

The majestic beauty previously revealed the secret to their long-lasting marriage was timing and knowing they were different to their public image at home.

She said: "We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are home, we are just Iman and David. We're not anybody else.

"I think the secret to a lasting marriage is timing, first of all. You have to be at the right time in your life that you're ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first, and a priority in life.

"If your career is important to you, don't get married and have children, because something will give.

"I know as women we want to be able to have it all, but we can't have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time. And sometimes you don't even have to get married. Why do you have to get married?"
