Jeremy Scott has an unusual dream, he wants to be the Princess Diana of fashion.

The creative director of Italian fashion house Moschino has confessed he doesn't care what critics think of his collections and wants to be considered the "people's designer", a tribute to the late royal's informal title, "the people's Princess", because he is only concerned with the public's reaction to his collections.

He told the Telegraph newspaper: "I don't care if the critics don't like me. I want to be the people's designer, like Diana was the people's princess. Fashion should be joyous."

The 41-year-old icon - who shocked the fashion world with his debut McDonald's inspired collection for the brand in February - was pleased his unpretentious and youthful designs sparked debate.

He explained: "Honestly, it shocks me that people found it so shocking... I'm glad it inspired dialogue, because so few things do today."

Meanwhile, Jeremy's Barbie-inspired follow up collection for spring/summer 2015 - which he showed in September this year - garnered similar attention and criticism with many influential industry favourites snubbing his controverisal show entirely.

However, the Missouri-born designer has since defended his collection and confessed he was inspired by the iconic doll to produce the designs as she "encompasses everything".

He explained: "There's one main reference and it's Barbie. I'm taking her through her day to evening. She is quite famous for having a lot of looks - roller-skating looks, jogging looks, every look - she's an institution.

"Every little girl and lots of little boys have grown up loving her. So she's the cue for the collection this season. There are no other references because she encompasses everything.

"I think Barbie brings joy. And that's what I try and do in my work. I am a controversial person too. We are very much in line together. And I think some people dig way too deep about this.

"It's a doll It's a toy. And on my side - it's only fashion. If you don't like it, don't buy it. It's that simple."
