The 42-year-old English supermodel - who began her career at the age of 14 after being scouted by Storm Model Management at JFK Airport, New York - has admitted she never received skin care tips from her mother Linda Shepherd, although she did from the red headed make-up artist, which she decided not to follow.

Speaking to W magazine about the style advice she gathered throughout her four decade spanning career, the blonde beauty said: "But back then, no one really did [give advice]. I don't think English people do, in general. It wasn't a big thing. Now it's getting big.

"Charlotte Tilbury told me not to go out in the sun, but it's because she's a redhead, so she knows. I kind of ignored her, but now I'm taking no risks!

"[And] I remember taking my make-up off at a Saint Laurent shoot and I was dragging it across my eye. The makeup artist was like, 'Don't do that to your skin! Don't pull it like that!'"

However, the mother of one - who has Lila, 2002, with her ex-partner Jefferson Hack - learnt to dunk her face in icy water to look bright eyed early in the morning from the drama film 'Mommie Dearest'.

She explained: "I just watched 'Mommie Dearest'! That's what she does, isn't it? I first thought, that's insane, then I was like 'Hmmmm.' Those old school tricks work! With slices of cucumber and you just put your face in it and you definitely wake up.

"When I'm at work and it's an early morning and you're still asleep, really, then I do it. It's so good. It definitely works, because all the blood comes to the surface."

Meanwhile, the fashion muse, who has graced catwalk shows and campaigns for luxury brand's Burberry, Chanel and Balenciaga, and has collaborated with a number of brands including Longchamp and Topshop, has confessed her daughter is more in the know about the latest cosmetic products and trends than she is.

She explained: "She [Lila] knows more than me now! She's into natural, organic. Now, she's into mascara and beauty blogs and stuff."
