The fashion designer - whose birth name was Katherine Brosnahan - was tragically found dead by her housekeeper at her Park Avenue apartment on Tuesday (05.06.18) at the age off 55.

Now, the Medical Examiner's Office has released information on Thursday (07.06.18) stating that Kate took her own life.

Andy Spade, Kate's husband of 24 years and business partner, addressed his partner's passing in a statement which he released on Wednesday (06.06.18) in which he admitted she had "personal demons" she was trying to beat, which included her ongoing battle with bipolar.

Andy - who has 13-year-old daughter Frances with Kate - said: "Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives. We were in touch with her the night before and she sounded happy. There was no indication and no warning that she would do this. It was a complete shock. And it clearly wasn't her. There were personal demons she was battling."

Andy also confirmed that he and Kate had been living separately for 10 months before her passing, but the pair were still close and had "never even discussed divorce" as they still "loved each other very much".
