The 31-year-old Formula One ace doesn't agree with the signature line from Marilyn Monroe's cover of 'Diamonds are a girl's best friend', and has admitted that the sparkly jewels are also a man's favourite staple too - although he is the only sportsman in his field to adorn the luxury crystal.

Speaking to the New York Times newspaper about his style, the global spokesman for L'Oréal Men Expert said: "They say, 'Diamonds are a woman's best friend.' I disagree, because they can be the same for men. I'm probably the only man in my sport who wears diamonds."

Lewis - who had an on-and-off relationship with the former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger - has admitted that bejewelled accessories from the luxury brand Cartier are his preferred item of jewellery.

He said: "These are Cartier bracelets, which have diamonds, that I wear all the time. One is the "nail" bracelet and the other is a "Love" bracelet."

However, Lewis has admitted that he struggles to show his true personality through his clothes because of how strict his career is and the brands they are permitted to wear.

He said: "In Formula One, you have all these big brands involved, so there are very strict guidelines. You have to kind of wear what you're told to wear. It's kind of hard to still be yourself in it. That's why it's great to be able to come out and be able to show a little bit of your character and what you like and what your personality is when you're not racing. Such as, I wear jeans a lot."
