Michelle Obama will officially open the Costume Institute's new Anna Wintour Costume Center.

The US First lady has been chosen to unveil the newly-revamped fashion wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and will cut the ribbon on the morning of the annual Costume Institute gala on May 5.

According to WWD, Michelle, who is married to President Barack Obama, is expected to speak at the ceremony, but it is not yet known whether she is also attending the prestigious gala.

This year, the high-profile event celebrates the 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion' exhibition, which opens on May 8 and will feature 70 outfits, making it the largest show ever devoted to the late designer, who passed away in 1978.

VOGUE editor-in-chief Anna is reportedly determined to make this year's Met Ball better than ever.

A source recently told the Hollywood Reporter: "Anna wants more exclusivity and high fashion."

The fashion icon oversees both the benefit committee and the guest list, has reportedly insisted ticket prices be bumped up from $15,000 to $25,000 as well as having stricter guest list guidelines.

Stars in attendance will include Lupita Nyong'o, Zoe Saldana, Margot Robbie, Amanda Seyfried and Taylor Swift.
