Philip Treacy is designing the 2014 Brit Awards statue.

The acclaimed milliner has taken inspiration from the punk movement to put his own spin on the iconic trophy ahead of the annual music awards ceremony, which will be held on Wednesday February 19 next year.

He said: "Music has always been my inspiration and I'm fortunate to have worked with some of the music industry's greatest artists. My inspiration for the trophy comes from a uniquely British genre of music, punk."

The designer - who has created headgear for the likes of Lady Gaga and Madonna - has given the gong its own futuristic monochrome hat in keeping with his own design aesthetic.

Christian Tattersfield, the Brits chairman, said: "Philip is renowned for his distinctive and memorable designs, so we are thrilled to have him on board for this year.

"His involvement guarantees that the 2014 award will continue the tradition of iconic Brits statues and we are pleased to be able to reward music creativity with something so unique and special."

Philip follows in the footsteps of artist Damien Hirst and fashion favourite Vivienne Westwood, who have added their own flair to the statuettes in the past.
