The 'Work' hitmaker's traditional Polynesian inking, which is on the wrist and back of her right hand, has been recreated with jewels and precious stones on limited-edition ankle boots made by the veteran Spanish designer.

The fashion moguls have teamed up to create an exclusive footwear collection of 45 pairs - which will be released on May 5 - but when they first met, Rihanna had no idea Manolo would spot her tattoo, which she had done in 2013, and spontaneously request it be copied onto the stunning lilac boots, which she modelled in a video for Vogue UK.

In the clip, she turned to the 73-year-old designer and said: "You looked at my hands and said, 'What if we use your tattoo as a design for the embellishment?" before the camera pans to her feet and shows off the glitzy design.

Meanwhile, the Bajan beauty has found working with the beloved fashion industry "expert" a complete thrill because of his energy and "sweet spirit".

She said: "I want everything I do to be done in a way it is credible and authentic. It was a moment where I decided I wanted to try doing shoots but I felt like it would be best to do the collaboration with an expert.

"I thought his (Manolo's) spirit was so sweet and bright and bubbly and fun and he is so passionate about shoes and he loves shows... he's so animated, and I love that."
