Roland Mouret will design collection a for Banana Republic.

The French designer will curate 25 pieces for the popular US-based high street chain, with a mix of skirts, tops, trousers and dresses set to launch in August.

Dresses are tipped to be a sell-out with frocks retailing from $165, just a fraction of the cost compared to pieces from Mouret's eponymous label, but he insists the collection won't be an exact replica of his own line.

He told WWD.com: "It's not a copy of my clothes in a less expensive [version], but the experience of a fitted dress for the Banana Republic customer."

Mouret claims he was inspired to work with the brand after their innovative Sloan bi-stretch cotton fabric caught his attention.

He explained: "When I saw that fabric I was so interested in working with it in my way."

Meanwhile, Melloney Birkett, vice president of women's design at Banana Republic, claims the partnership with Mouret seemed like a natural collaboration.

She mused: "Roland is famous for his dresses and we have a very successful dress business."
