The 36-year-old actress and designer Abrimah Erwiah unveiled their third official collection - presented in partnership with the Lower Eastside Girls Club - on Monday (14.09.15) during New York Fashion Week

The new mostly unisex range features pieces created by using African artisanal techniques such as hand-batiking and basket and kente weaving and the garments were inspired by the colour indigo, water and the West African Adinkra symbol 'sankofa' - which represents the idea of looking to the past in order to look forward.

Included in the collection were jumpsuits, patchwork denim jackets, hooded ponchos, caftans and wide-leg trousers.

Although Studio 189 was set up in partnership with the United Nations' Ethical Fashion Initiative, Rosario insists the clothes don't give off a "charity" vibe.

The 'Marvel's Daredevil' star said: "The collection's got a harmony to it. It speaks to other people, and it doesn't speak charity. It speaks beauty, excellence, craftsmanship and luxury, and the things that you associate with something made in Italy. That's what we're ultimately after."

Rosario also wants her enterprise - which has its headquarters in Ghana - to be known for collaborations with African companies as it's very important for her to help the region.

She told WWD: "If we embrace doing collaborations, then we can make something beautiful."
