Tommy Hilfiger banned celebrities from the front row during his New York Fashion Week show on Monday (09.09.13).

The iconic American designer wanted to return the focus on fashion for the debut of his Spring/Summer 2014 collection and was seemingly unwilling to share the limelight with a number of A-listers who have been dominating the coveted seats over the past week.

According to the MailOnline, Hilfiger said: "I don't like the drama in the fashion world. I like to do our thing without the drama."

Prestigious editors, stylists and members of the Hilfiger family took pride of place in favour of pop stars like Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj who attended other shows.

Hilfiger's comments echo fellow designer Oscar de la Renta, who limited his guest list to focus on those who had a real reason to be there.

He told WWD: "Why have 20 million people with zero connection to the clothes?"

Hilfiger's eagerly-awaited collection fused laid back Californian style with the fast-paced vibrancy of New York, bringing a range of surf-inspired styles to the runway, which featured a board walk and man-made beach.

The 62-year-old star said: "It's really from the inspiration of Melrose to Malibu, and we brought Malibu to New York. It's about surfing and skating, sporty lifestyles, about colour and the modern cool woman."
