If you’ve never been to a festival before there’s going to be a lot of excitement and a lot of panic of what to pack, so we have the essential items you won’t want to leave home without.

When you’re packing your bag for the festival it’s going to one of two ways, you’re going to take everything and not wear much or you’re not going to take the essentials and you’ll find yourself wishing you had packed more.

Here’s we have 6 items that you won't want to leave home without if you're heading to a festival for the first time this summer.

Waterproof jacket

We all know that the British summer time doesn't guarantee wall-to-wall sunshine so a waterproof/showerproof jacket will ensure you stay happy and dry throughout the weekend. You don't have to spend a fortune on a designer option, head to Primark, George at Asda or Matalan for stylish options that come in fun printed designs.

Knitwear/Sweatshirt

As previously mentioned the British weather comes with no guarantee and that means it can get cold an hour later after the sun has been shining, so remember to pack a jumper/cardigan/pullover/hoody. Anything that will keep you warm, and the chances are you'll want to sleep in it too. It can get cold if you're not sharing a tent with anybody.

Leggings

A pair of leggings won't take up much space in your bag and they're not heavy either, pack these in case you get cold during the day or sleep in them in the evening when the temperature drops.

Denim shorts

Denim shorts are the staple to every festival wardrobe, and the best thing is they're hard to crease. Just take them as a back up in case you find yourself hating the outfits you've brought or the sun makes an appearance and you want to tan your legs. You can pick up cheap options in New Look, Matalan and Primark if you're not entirely sure you'll be wearing them.

Wellies

Quite the obvious item, but a must have none the less. Wellies are a festival wardrobe staple, wet weather in the middle of a field is only going to result in mud splashed up your legs. Of course Hunters are the stylish designer option, but the high street have plenty of trendy pairs with prints and colours galore.

Fresh pair of pyjamas

At the end of the festival you're going to feel grubby and tired, longing for fresh clothes and fresh bedding. Take a pair of pyjamas or loungewear that you don't wear all weekend and change in them to travel home, it won't quite be as good as a hot shower, but you'll feel twenty times better on the journey home - trust us with this one.
