Socks and sandals have been named the ultimate fashion faux pas

There have been plenty of fashion faux pas over the years, some of which we’ll have cringed at our own take of them, but the number one has been revealed.

Socks and sandals.

Socks and sandals have been rated the biggest fashion faux pas of all time, according to Debenhams.

It’s quite surprising when you think that the male style icon, David Beckham has even worn them, as has fashion Queen Sarah Jessica Parker.

They’ve even been featured of catwalks across the world, most recently on the SS13 catwalks of Chanel, Burberry and Louis Vuitton.

“Socks and sandals are the epitome of British summer style gone wrong,” says Ed Watson, spokesperson for Debenhams.

“The fashion crowd might have classed it as en vogue but our customers have voted it the worst look of all time.”

Other fashion catastrophes rated highly include platforms on men and low slung trousers, as well as retro favourites, shell suits and bum bags – which have definitely made a comeback this year.
Ed Watson continues; “It might look chic on a catwalk but this isn’t a look that many of us want to see on our local high streets.”

The top ten fashion faux pas were ranked as follows:
1. Socks and sandals
2. Platforms for men
3. Low slung trousers
4. Velour tracksuits
5. Harems
6. Crop tops
7. Bum bags
8. Shell suit
9. Trucker hats
10. Scrunchies

Crop tops also appeared in the top then even though many fashionistas regard them as ‘on trend’ this season.

Watson concludes: “We were surprised by many of the items making the top ten as most of us have committed at least one of these fashion crimes at some point.”

“We wait with bated breath to see if any more of these faux pas make the transition to being on trend as socks and sandals have.”
