Shao Yen SS15

London based womenswear designer Shao Yen returns to London Fashion Week this season with his first stand alone show to date, ‘Canvas’.

Inspired by a recent trip to Trafalgar Square’s National Gallery, Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic 1888 masterpiece ‘Sunflowers’ planted the stimulating seeds inside Chen’s mind, serving as the core focal point for the designer’s ninth consecutive collection.

A symbol of devotion and loyalty, the passion of the painting is echoed in the vibrant shades of yellow and white, complimented by energetic hues of blue.

With further exploration Chen looked towards the subtle elements of the art work, exploring the various textures of the wooden shell and the raw touch of the brush strokes on canvas.

Taking an abstract approach to the recreation of Van Gogh’s work, Chen uses a distinct tie-dye technique, creating abstract shapes set against elements of leather, silks and cotton.

Using a range of unexpected materials and diverse forms, including paint brush inspired earrings and accessories Shao Yen yet again proves why he is sharply becoming one of the most exciting names in fashion today with another extremely cutting edge, exhilarating collection for the Spring / Summer 2015 season.
