Sundays are my day for resetting- yours might differ depending on family commitments and work schedules but I would strongly advise you to select a day each week where you reset for the week ahead and put a few things in place to make your upcoming seven days flow more effortlessly.

Make a to-do list

Make a to-do list

Here are just a few of things I do on a Sunday to ensure my mind and home are ready for the impending week.

Make a to do list for the week ahead

Sit down with a pad and paper for a few moments and map out your week. You may be someone who carries a diary, but this is generally for work and personal plans. Transfer those plans onto another page an add in the little things you need to do each day as well and give yourself a little tick list. That way you have a clear picture of what needs to be done- not just the big things.

My week might include work one day, play group with my daughter on my day off and a night out with my friend one evening- but I also include things like washing, ironing and which room I need to clean each day.

Clear away any paperwork

One way to get in a good headspace is to file away your paperwork; shred anything that needs shredding and take action on anything that needs to be completed (or at least make a plan to act upon it). This will give you a clean slate for any paperwork that will enter your home in the coming week. There is nothing worse than leaving papers until you have a huge pile to work through.

I have a box where I dump all post once I’ve opened it, flyers, receipts and then on a Sunday I go through it and assign a place for each piece of paper or shred whatever is useless.

Tidy all your living spaces

You don’t have to do a deep clean but make sure everything is as clean and tidy as your time permits. Do the washing up or put the dishwasher on a cycle, put your shoes away, give the bathroom toilet a shot of bleach. If you wake up to a messy space it will set the wrong tone for your week.

I try and clean and tidy a room a day, so a little effort is all that is needed on my reset day because I’ve paved the way during the week.

Ensure your washing is up to date

It may seem like a trivial thing but if you have access to all your clothes at the start of the week, you won’t be rushing around to iron a shirt before work or throwing something in the wash last minute and hoping it will be dry by the time you need it to be. If you want to take this a step further- you might like to lay out your clothes for the next day the night before and plan what you want to wear for the week ahead of time.

Meal prep

Even if you don’t have all the ingredients you need- work out what you want to eat each night of the week, so you have time to get in extras if you need to. Along with this- it really helps to keep on top of your weight, your food budget and your time if you make your lunch the night before so it’s ready to just grab and go before work.

Plan in something for yourself every day

We can get swept up in tasks that NEED doing during the week and responsibilities that come with work, social and family life but plan something in something pleasurable each day that is just for you. That could be 10 minutes of reading, watching your favourite programme on TV or catch up, writing in your journal. If you have a difficult week coming up- seeing that little ray of light at the end of your day will help you get through the tough stuff.

Take a moment to reflect

Think about the week just gone and consider what went well- what do you want to repeat from that week? What do you want to put behind you? What did you learn? What were your highlights? Having lived that week in all its highs and lows can give you greater insight in what will work well or indeed not so well in the future.
