We can probably guess that being more organised is on most people’s list of self-improvement strategies now that January has well and truly kicked in.

Having a diary is good, but how much do you actually use it?

Having a diary is good, but how much do you actually use it?

But how much have you actually organised being more organised?

Even though the steps to get going with this clearer mindset are probably obvious, you might find that you’ve not quite ticked all these boxes. Here are our 7 tips to an organised 2019.

Get a diary – and use it!

Some people will have got one for Christmas and it might already be lost in a pile of other notepads and documents. If you didn’t have one gifted to you, most stationary stores will be reducing the prices in the January sales!

Treat yourself to a bargain. The rewards will reap daily when you’re bossing your way through life. Writing down your appointments, meetings and social events in a little diary will keep your thoughts and plans more organised and you’ll have a much clearer head when planning day-to-day things.

End every day with a to-do list

Before you go to bed, write down a to-do list of all the essential things you need to tick off for the following day. Not only will this make you feel more productive and ready for the day ahead when you wake up, but it will reduce some anxiety and stress about all the things you need to remember to do whilst your mind tries to rest at night.

Make paper shopping lists

It’s easy to quickly type things into your phone notes but keeping a shopping list on paper just makes you feel more organised – even if it makes no real difference. Does anyone else notice a theme here?

Clear out rubbish

This one seems to make an appearance on many of our Seven things to… lists, but that’s because a living space free of rubbish really does make a huge difference in so many ways.

Getting rid of all your old things that you no longer use means you are free from clutter. A tidy home makes for a tidy mind.

You’ll also be forced to put things back in their homes, meaning you’ll know where everything you need is. No more turning the house upside down to find that lipstick you bought last month? Yes please!

Set a day aside for housework

When you lead a busy work life, cleaning and other bits of house work can quickly drop to the bottom of the to-do list. Setting a day aside for vaccing, dusting and general tidy-ups will keep your home from looking like a tip.

If you put some feel-good music on in the background it won’t feel like so much of a chore!

Stock up on essentials

It’s not always an affordable way to do life, but if you have the disposable income to do so, stock up on essentials next time you’re in the supermarket.

Deodorants, toilet roll, make-up wipes – those types of things. If there’s a special offer on make the most of it and get an extra for the cupboard. That way you won’t wake up one morning and kick yourself because you’re all out of an essential item!

Delete old files

The storage on our phones, laptops and other tech devices can quickly fill up with pointless selfies, accidental screenshots or old documents we no longer need. Keeping on top of what files you have and deleting any videos where nothing happens means you’ll have more memory for the moments that matter.

Capture that beautiful sunset with your camera without the disturbance of the ‘not enough storage’ notification!
