With #Foodprep being used on Instagram almost 1.5 million times, and #Preworkout in excess of 3.2 million times, it’s clear that that there are a world of foodies hooked on prepping meals to fuel the day ahead. And, when it comes to eating fresh, home cooked meals, it’s true that preparation is everything.
However, does food preparation always have to be a laborious task that you dread starting? How do you ensure you’re eating fresh food every day?
Daniel O'Shaughnessy Dip ION Fdsc mBANT CNHC, Director of Nutrition at The Naked Nutritionist shares his five best time saving food prep hacks to help make sure your body is fueled for whatever you have planned that day…
Food prepping isn’t just for bodybuilders! Batch cook rice, pasta, chicken and vegetables for the week in advance so you can concentrate on other things.
Want fresh bread but don’t want to wait for it to be made? I simply throw all the ingredients in my Panasonic Breadmaker and set the timer for it to be ready when I “rise" in the morning. It’s so convenient and means I get fresh bread just in time for breakfast. You can even try creating a gluten free bread to avoid any painful bloating.
The mornings can be a bit of a rush for many people, meaning it becomes all too easy to skip breakfast. To avoid missing your first meal of the day, soak oats overnight in milk or water with some cinnamon and raisins. In the morning, just add a chopped apple and some nuts for a quick and delicious breakfast.
To get a little extra nutrition, I recommend having cold-pressed vegetable juice once per day. I create mine with the Panasonic Slow Juicer as it retains more nutrients than regular speed juicers. You can make a 2 litre juice which will keep for 2-3 days in the fridge, meaning you only have to make it a couple of times a week. Simply have a glass each day with a balanced meal.
Avoid that dreaded afternoon slump by swapping shop bought sandwiches for leftovers from the night before. Not only is it a great time saving hack, but it also helps to save money and avoid food waste. Remember to pop your lunch in good BPA-free Tupperware.
Armed with Daniel’s ultimate time saving hacks, fresh ingredients and a couple of handy kitchen appliances, you can make sure you’re prepared for whatever the day throws at you.
