If you won the biggest lottery cheque ever, who would you tell first?

This Friday sees one of the biggest jackpots ever up for grabs on EuroMillions. The £100m estimated jackpot cannot roll over and must be won that night. If it isn't, it will roll down and be shared amongst all the winners on the next prize level. But if you were the one who was lucky enough to win it, which of your nearest and dearest would get to hear about it first? Pity our poor mums and dads-just one in 10 of us say they'd spill the beans to their folks first.

Two thirds of people say they'd sidestep their parents and go straight to their partners with the news of a monster win. How they'd behave when they first heard the news for themselves is another story. British restraint is the stuff of legend, and that national trait seems to apply to lottery wins as much as it does to anything else. A recent poll by The National Lottery found that the very first thing that most of us would do if we won £100million would be to get someone else to triple check the numbers on the lottery ticket. Refreshingly, a quarter of us admit that they'd be jumping with excitement. However, one in 10 would immediately reach for a stiff drink to steady their nerves.

If you didn't win yourself but thought you might be in line to reap a little fringe benefit from someone else's good fortune, sadly, you'd be wrong. Only 10% of people say they'd celebrate their win with an all-night bash at the local pub with everyone they know. A quiet get-together at home with close family and friends is the number one celebration of choice.

However you'd decide to celebrate a lottery win, there's no escaping the fact that this week's EuroMillions prize amounts to a life-changing sum of money. A National Lottery spokesperson confirmed the momentousness of the jackpot, saying: "The National Lottery has created over 2,100 millionaires to date - but if there is a single UK winner of the jackpot this Friday we could be signing our biggest cheque ever, as well as creating lottery history around the world!"
