Are you worried about the pending winter drawing in along with the rain, snow and ice? Worried you may get stuck in mud or unable to take your children to their various activities due to the slush?

Then fear no more if you are the proud owner of a Landrover because they proved to us cynical journalists of the Southern Group of Motoring Writers, just how unbelievably efficient and competent their range of vehicles are by taking us to the most gruelling off road course ever just north of Barcelona at a place called Les Comes.

Never in my life have I experienced such off roading and whilst not the most confident driving under these conditions, I was by the end of these two fantastic days.

The problem with vehicles equipped for off road capability is that you very really get to use the system except in diverse weather conditions or if you happen to live in a really rural area. So it’s difficult to appreciate the amazing technology on these vehicles. Only by going to such places, which you can in a corporate capacity that would make a great ‘bonding’ session, to experience yourselves how these Landrover’ s cope with such challenging conditions, do you appreciate this fact.

Now, we are taking of the most uneven surfaces, full of boulders and debris, huge muddy ruts, and ascending plus descending – for what goes up, must come down, hills that makes absailing look like sledging. There was one hill and if anyone has been to Alton Towers and rode Oblivion, where the car is perched on top then suddenly drops down, well, we had to do this in the Landrover. You would expect the Sport and Discovery to take up the challenge without too much bother, but my co-driver and I decided to put the Freelander 2 through this adventure. Why? Because we both have predominantly female readers and the Freelander 2 is aimed more at females that the rest of the fleet.

The Freelander 2 has less ground clearance that the others, and a side tilt of just 38 degrees before it will tip over, yet to our utter amazement, or I as I put it, our expert driving, we took the Freelancer 2 across this course and my goodness did this car perform. Up and down she went, over the hills that feel like mountains when off roading, across the speckled terrain full of rocks through the deep ruts without a once of protest.

I guess you are probably thinking ‘what’s the point of all this’? Well in reality, when you need the 4X4 capacity, if you have a Freelander 2 or any other Landover, you are safe in the knowledge that this car will carefully get you out of trouble as long as you trust the car and respect the speed.

So no more missing those vital journeys as your driveway of a gosh with mud. Put your 4x4 into the correct mode and its child’s play.

Thank you Landrover for letting us experience the attributes of your vehicles under such extreme conditions.
