New global sales figures for Land Rover have been announced at the Detroit Motor Show.

Land Rover delivered a very strong performance in the majority of its 102 markets with retail sales up 25% globally.  The brand's top 5 markets were the UK, United States, China, Italy and Russia which accounted for 66% of sales alone.  Notable product performances were delivered by Discovery 4/LR4 up 45%, Rand Rover and Range Rover Sport up 30% and Freelander 2 up 21%

John Edwards, Land Rover's Sales Performance Global Brand Director said: “ We are a business which has got some momentum behind us. We have a very good export profile and there is some real energy in the business at the moment. It is a very exciting place to be.”

The news comes just days after the announcement of exceptional UK sales figures.  Land Rover registered just over 42,000 new vehicles in the UK in 2010 compared to around 33,000 in 2009 - representing a 28% increase in sales over the previous year.

Range Rover also performed exceptionally well with 4,069 new registrations in 2010 compared to 3,152 in 2009 (up 29%). The marque's flagship model received a new TDV8 engine at 11 Model Year, which sees fuel consumption improve by nearly 20% compared to the outgoing engine.

The last week has also seen the UK public reveal of the new Range Rover Evoque, which is set to go on sale later this year as Land Rover's most sustainable vehicle to date. The new Range Rover will be manufactured at Land Rover's plant in Halewood, Liverpool, creating 1500 new jobs in the process.
