Rango
Ok so The Tourist may not have been the huge box office success that Johnny Depp may have hoped that it would be back in December but 2011 looks set to be a very busy year for the actor.
This week sees him return to the big screen, well sort of, as he voices the title character in new animation movie Rango.
The movie, in which voices the characters of Rango and Lars, sees him reunite with his Pirates of the Caribbean filmmaker Gore Verbinksi.
This is the first movie for Verbinski since Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and is his first stab at an animation project.
Rango is a sheltered chameleon living as an ordinary family pet facing a major identity crisis.
After all, how high can you aim when your whole purpose in life is to blend in?
When Rango accidentally winds up in the gritty, gun-slinging town of Dirt, a lawless outpost populated by the desert’s most wily and whimsical creatures, the less-than-courageous lizard suddenly finds he stands out.
Welcomed as the last hope the town has been waiting for, new Sheriff Rango is forced to play his new role to the hilt - until he starts to become the hero he once only pretended to be.
And while Rango looks like it's going to be an exciting ride I have to admits that it's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides that I'm most looking forward to.
I know that Dead Man's Chest and At World's End didn't quite live up to the excellent Curse of the Black Pearl but I am very excited about seeing Captain Jack Sparrow return to the big screen.
This time around it's Rob Marshall who finds himself in the director's chair - a fresh pair of life that will hopefully re-energise this very fun franchise.
Geoffrey Rush and Kevin mcNally are also back but we have some new faces on the cast list in the form of Penelope Cruz and Ian McShane as Blackbeard.
The movie promises to go back to it's Curse of the Black Pearl roots and it's one of the movies that you really shouldn't miss this summer.
As if that wasn't enough Autumn promises to bring us another Depp outing as he leads the cast of The Rum Diary, which is directed by Bruce Robinson.
Depp takes on the role of Paul Kemp alongside Amber Heard, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins and Giovanni Ribisi.
Paul Kemp is a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean.
Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction
Based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson could this movie bring Depp a long awaited Oscar?
On top of these projects ready for release Depp is also set to reunite with Tim Burton for Dark Shadows, which is based on the TV series.
So if you are a big fan of Johnny Depp, as I am, then I think you are going to enjoy 2011 at the cinema!
Rango is released 4th March.
