Channing Tatum

There hasn't been an actor busier than Channing Tatum in 2012 as he returns this week for his fourth film of the year.

He has moved from action to comedy to heart-breaking romance and now he is back with comedy drama Magic Mike.

The movie sees him reunite with director Steven Soderbergh for a movie that was inspired by his stripping days before he became an actor.

He kicked off the year working with Soderbergh for the first time as he joined the all star cast of Haywire.

But it was The Vow that really kicked off 2012 for the actor as he teamed up with Rachel McAdams for the touching movie.

Directed by Michael Sucsy the film was based on the true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter and follows a married couple whose lives are turned upside down after a car accident.

Leo (Tatum) comes out of the accident unscathed but Paige (McAdams) suffers a major head injury which erased her memory of her romance and marriage to Leo.

The movie is a heartwarming drama that follows Leo as he tries to make his wife fall in love with him all over again.

This is an incredibly touching story about love triumphing over all odds not only that it is a movie that looks at the idea of discovering yourself and having the strength of conviction to follow the path you want - only someone with a heart of stone can not be touched by this movie.

But Tatum's biggest success of the year so far come in the form of 21 Jump Street - which is the funniest and best comedy of 2012 so far.

Tatum teams up with funnyman Jonah Hill to bring the hit eighties TV show to the big screen while Phil Lord and Chris Miller were in the director's chair.

The movie follows two cops who go undercover in a high school to uncover a drugs operation - of course there is hilarity and mishaps along the way.

This movie is laugh out loud funny and was a hit with both the critics and at the box office as it went on to gross in excess of $197 million.

But this week Tatum is back with Soderbergh for Magic Mike, which also stars Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey.

To a rebellious 19-year-old kid (Pettyfer) looking for independence from his family, Magic Mike (Tatum) seems like the perfect role model: he’s got a nice car, a nice apartment, and a seemingly endless supply of women.

What’s his secret? He’s a male stripper, and when the kid dives headlong into Magic Mike’s world, his mad dancing skills and hunger for excitement make for an unforgettable summer...

Magic Mike has already enjoyed success at the U.S. box office and that success looks set to continue in the UK when it hits the big screen on Wednesday.

Tatum should have had a second movie out this summer in the form of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, in which he will reprise the role of Duke Hauser, but the release of the film has been pushed back to March 2013.

This time around Jon M. Chu is in the director's chair while Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson will be joining Tatum on the cast list.

The Bitter Pill is another project that Tatum already has in the bag as he works with Soderbergh for a third time.

Rooney Mara, Jude Law and Catherine Zeta Jones are all also set to star and that will be released next year.

The actor is currently lending his voice to Lego: The Piece of Resistance while The Contortionist's Handbook and Foxcatcher are projects in the pipeline.

Magic Mike is released 11th July
