David Tennant

David Tennant swaps time travel for vampires this week as he stars in Fright Night, a remake of the popular eighties movie.

It's the first time that we have seen the actor on the big screen since St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold back in 2009 has he has moved between the big screen and TV.

Tennant kicked off his career in TV with role in Rab C Nesbitt and Taking Over The Asylum before making his first big screen appearance in 1996 with Jude.

While he landed roles on movies such as Bright Young Things and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire it was in TV that he really made his name.

2004 brought Blackpool, which also starred David Morrissey and Sarah Parish before he went on to lead the cast in Casanova.

But it was the role of The Doctor in the revamp of Doctor Who that made him a household name.

He joined the show in the second series, replacing Christopher Eccleston, and went on to stay for three whole series and a run of specials before leaving in 2010.

He has become one of the most popular Doctors that the series has ever had and made the show a mammoth hit.

Since then he has mixed TV role with theatre, enjoy8ing a hugely successful run in Hamlet before going back to the small screen for Einstein and Eddington and Single Father.

St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold was his last big screen appearance as he joined an all star cast that included Rupert Everett and Colin Firth.

The movie was a hit at the UK box office as it opened at number two, held off the top spot by Avatar.

But Fright Night marks his return to the silver screen as he joins an all star cast of Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz Plasse and Toni Collette.

Directed by Craig Gillespie the movie follows teenager Charlie Brewster (Yelchin) who discovers that his next door neighbour (Farrell) is a vampire.

He enlists the help of vampire expert Peter Vincent (Tennant) to help him get rid of Jerry.

And Tennant has already completed work on British comedy The Decoy Bride , which also stars Kelly MacDonald and Alive Eve.

He is also set to lend his voice to stop-motion animation movie The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists.

Fright Night is released 2nd September.
